Alex & Jacq Beautiful Day – Kellybrook Winery
I was fortunate enough to photograph these adorable humans after being referred by the brilliant ‘Lucy Spartalis Photography’. Thanks to her we (my second shooter, the fabulous Alex ‘Zander’ Moshovelis) were able to capture the best day of Alex & Jacq’s life.
These two were so sweet, innocent and cute, I just wanted to bottle them up and sell them- I’d make heaps!
I ask all clients to summarise how they saw their day, here is from both perspectives -
We wanted to create a day that would be memorable, representative of us and fun. We didn’t have a theme, or wedding colours; we just went with things that we liked, like an antique map that we asked people to sign for us, tying in with our mutual love of travel. There was a lot of family involvement in setting everything up- Alex’s mum made the cake, my mum made the wedding dress, mum, my sister and I arranged the flowers. My brother and sister starred as my Bridespeople. We designed and printed our own invitations and seating chart (changed at the last minute necessitating a trip to Officeworks- “is this for a wedding?”, “yes, mine”, “oh, when is it?”, “in about six hours…”). Some of the more memorable moments of the day included my dad’s speech (starting with the iconic Princess Bride line “mawwage is wot bwings us togevver” and including a Darth Vader impression), the ridiculously fun bridal party photo session, and the quiet time spent alone together (with Lauren there to capture it, of course) just before the ceremony. In the end, we had such a good time celebrating with friends and family that Alex had to literally carry me away from the restaurant at the end of the night to get me to stop talking to everyone and say goodnight.
My perspective on marriage is that it is not an essential element of a relationship, but if you’re going to do it it should fit with who you are and it should be fun for everyone involved. Thankfully thats how ours turned out! Things almost came down to the wire in organising matters but it never felt as though we’d run out of breath. The day itself went far more smoothly than we had a right to hope for – the weather was fine and warm, everything came together and I got to marry my favourite person under an oak tree with vows that we’d written for each other.
I would say that Lauren was fun to work with but it really didn’t feel like work – we were just enjoying ourselves in a relaxed atmosphere. It felt good to see everything work out so well after planning and prepping for so long.
This was a seriously fun day! The whole bridal party were up for random and somewhat absurd suggestion – I LOVED IT!
Here is how we saw their day-
‘We’d like to just say thanks to Lauren for her all round awesome work. Not only did the pictures turn out awesomely, but she was fun to work with and helped us get organised and ready on time, as well as keeping us calm – she did far more than just show up and take pictures.’
