When the YES vote was successfully passed last year I couldn’t WAIT to start documenting same sex couples proclaiming their love and commitment through the legal act of marriage….

So you could imagine my excitement when Michael and Will contacted me not long after to capture their beautiful gay wedding. The only reason I’m referring to it as a gay wedding is purely for seo purposes. To me a wedding between 2 people that love each other, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, is simply a wedding. But I digress.

Michael and Will have a gorgeous 2 year old daughter named Maya. When we met to discuss their wedding we couldn’t help but talk about our ivf journeys (my wife and I have a 2 year old son). The journey two men have to go through in order to have a child together is incredibly challenging. So I was extra excited that they agreed to let me share their story as part of my documentary – following the ivf journey of same sex couples trying to start a family together.

But before that happens I had the absolute pleasure of documenting Michael and Will as they say, “I do!”

Michael loves all things English. Which is why Moulton Park Cottages with it’s stunning grounds was the perfect location. The vibrant autumn leaves adding to the perfection. The English details continued with Michael and Will’s dashing tweed suits.

A 2004 (the year they started dating) bottle of Bollinger champagne was thoroughly enjoyed while we did the creative shoot. When Will was looking for wedding photographers he was drawn to my quirky style. So when we came across a tennis court with deck chairs our eyes lit up at the creative possibilities. Definitely be on the look out for them because they turned out AWESOME!

Their intimate wedding ceremony took place surrounded by close friends and family. Seeing the love and joy on their faces, and those around them, showed how important the marriage law change in Australia was/is to the LGBTQI community.

Here’s how I saw Michael and Will’s special day….ENJOY!
