Your Story at Home – Authentic Couple Photography with The Becs
I received a call from these girls asking if I could photograph their celebration.
Peak wedding season… I was already booked.
We ended up chatting for over 30 minutes anyway. I still remember Bec trying to work out a way to make it happen.
“So what time does the other one finish?”
I was spewin’. There was no way to make both work.
But the more I heard about their story, the more I wanted to document them somehow. That’s when the idea of a Your Story session came into play. I don’t even remember who suggested it, but I was stoked they were up for it.

Authentic Couple Photography, At Home
When I arrived at their place, I was instantly welcomed in by Bec’s smiling face.
Their home had just been renovated and honestly, it looked incredible. But what stood out wasn’t just the space, it was the details.
The small things.
The things most people wouldn’t even notice.
Those quiet, in-between pieces that tell you everything about a couple without them even realising it.
This is the part I love about authentic couple photography. It’s not about creating moments. It’s about noticing them.

The Magic in the In-Between
The more I shoot these Your Story sessions, the more I realise how much I love this work.
I’ve met some seriously unreal humans lately, and these two were no exception. Full of life, full of love, and properly funny.
The kind of people you could sit with for hours.
I probably could have stayed all night just photographing their banter and the way they move around each other. I left with sore cheeks from laughing and that buzz you get when you know you’ve captured something real.

Why They Chose a Your Story Session
After the shoot, the girls shared this with me:
“For us, our commitment to each other is made every day in our daily decisions. That’s way more important to us than any single event like a wedding.
We were having a special dinner with family and friends to celebrate that commitment, and while photos were important, traditional event photography never felt right for us. It always felt a bit artificial.
We searched for an LGBT photographer and found your documentary work. Even though you couldn’t shoot the event, we loved your work so much that we decided to do a session instead.
We’re not people who love formal portraits, but we still wanted photos that felt like us. The way you capture authenticity in couples and families really resonated.
Basically… you’re hella good. And Bec likes to have the best 😉”

Not Every Story Needs a Wedding Day
This is exactly why sessions like this matter.
Not every story fits into a traditional wedding day. And honestly, not everyone wants it to.
But that doesn’t mean those stories shouldn’t be documented.
Sometimes, the everyday holds more weight than the big event.
